Assessing your impact
When designing educational programs, you should start by thinking about what you want to accomplish. What is the main point of your presentation? What do you want people to do or not do? Do you want people to change their attitudes or values about owls? Are there important points you want your audience to learn and remember? (See our Education Methods page.)
It is important to follow up with some kind of assessment to find out if you are actually accomplishing your educational goals. Below are samples of surveys used by the International Owl Center (located in Houston, Minnesota USA) and owlproject.org (working in Johannesburg, South Africa) to assess the effectiveness of their educational messages. You can see the goals are very different for each survey due to the different cultures in which each organization is working.
